Protected: An Introduction to Safety Management Systems (SMS)

This module is designed as a brief introduction to safety management systems. By taking this module, you will learn the definition of a safety management system, the three safety management processes, the Four Pillars of Safety, and the key attributes of a functioning safety management system.

Checklists

This module focuses on the benefits as well as the risks of using checklists in an aviation environment, and the discipline and care that must be taken to ensure it fulfils its intended purpose.

Automation

The training objective of this module is to understand the benefits and risks of using automation, and to learn strategies that can be used to mitigate the risks of automation use.

Fatigue

This training module provides operators with an opportunity to learn about fatigue and how fatigue can affect health and safety in the workplace. This module can also be integrated into an operator’s own fatigue training system.

Decision Making

The training objective of this module is to provide an understanding of how we make decisions and some of the traps we can fall into. Take this course to learn strategies that help us make good decisions – including decision making models.

Situational Awareness

The training objectives of this module is to define situational awareness (SA), identify threats to, and indicators of possible loss of SA, as well as to identify strategies to develop and maintain SA.

Information Processing

The training objective of this module is to provide an understanding of how we sense, perceive and process information. You will learn some of the illusions we may be presented with, particularly in the air.

Teamwork & Leadership

The training objective of this module is to understand what makes for effective leadership and teamwork. You will also learn the strategies we can use to optimise our performance as both leaders and as members of a team.

Communication

The training objective of this module is to understand what is meant by effective communication & active listening. By taking this course, you will be able to recognise barriers to effective communication and learn about strategies we can use to improve communication.

Performance

The training objective of this module is to to identify some of the factors that can affect our performance and things we can do to help us optimise these.

Just Culture

The training objective of this module is to define just culture and highlight its safety value through examination of a case study.

Introduction to Human Factors & Non-Technical Skills – for Australian Operators

The training objective of this module is to provide an understanding of key definitions and concepts of human factors and non-technical skills. These definitions are provided in context under the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 119 requirements for human factors and non-technical skills training.
